Are opinions still a dime
a dozen?

Introduction:
Before reading this article
and definitely before sending an email, read the sources and pledge
sections.
Have you heard the saying "Opinions are worth a dime
a dozen." I've always thought that was a pretty steep price for a
simple opinion. I hear them all the time and I would definitely be
broke if I had to pay a dime for every dozen. So would you,
especially if sarcasm is extra. Let the sarcasm begin.
I was looking through some articles and came across a
list of the best opinion sites as determined by some other website's
opinion. After reviewing a few of the opinions I noticed a trend of
opinions on the Internet. They are basically worthless in and of
themselves. Together, though, lots of them together, they are worth
something. They can even be correct.

I read some of the opinions of the restaurants I have
eaten at recently. Most of the opinions were 4's or 5's out of 5 but
there were, in every restaurant, a 1 out of 5. I read one opinion
"If you like tons of parsley on your plate then eat here, it is
disgusting."
Parsley deserves rating the entire restaurant a 1?
Really? I can't wait for a website that allows me to give an opinion
about something this person does...anything from how they keep their house
or drive or do their job.
I also saw a seafood house (with seafood in the name)
get a 1 out of 5 because the person didn't like seafood. This person
is a genius.

I read some opinions about the decisions the
Presidents have made about national security. It doesn't matter
which President we are referring to...the average Joe has no idea, not
even a tiny little inkling, what information the President used to base
their decision on or what went into making that decision.
I've read opinions of the average Joe's crack down on
President Clinton for not taking Osama more seriously and killing him when
he had a chance to (supposedly had a chance to).
I've read opinions of the average Joe's crack down on
President Bush for his handling of Iraq.
I've read opinions on Gerald Ford's Presidency
recently too.
All of them are individually useless. Clinton,
Bush and Ford all had the most important job in the world, period.
They have so many facets to consider, so many lives to consider, so many
things that the average Joe is not only unqualified to make the decision,
they are unqualified to have a meaningful opinion of those decisions.
Even looking back with the supposed information the President had at the
time, the average Joe has no idea about what's what.

Back to the restaurants...I think that the people who go
to a restaurant once, expect a ton of service for nickel worth of food,
expect a 1 star to act like a 5 star, expect every waitress to treat them
like the king and queen they think they are, the people who think that --
because they might give a $1.50 tip -- they have an opinion that matters
have some serious ego problems. You are one in 7 billion...you're
not that special.
The truth is that for 4 out of 5 people this restaurant is
for you. But if you are that single freak of a person just like the
one I describe above, then stay away from this restaurant because they put
an extra sprig of parsley on the plate and that is just unacceptable.
Fast forward to the President issue. Millions of
people can be wrong. After all, we elected Jimmy Carter as
President, didn't we. The President is the President. The
President's job is one that the average Joe does not want no matter how
smart they think they are. Most people feel important because they
have an opinion. Everyone has an opinion of God so why not have an
opinion of how the President is doing? Average Joe is an opinion
master.
That means something I guess. As one reader has
informed me, "You [me the author] must feel really important, you have
opinions of everything, you have the audacity to write it on the Internet
anonymously and you think you are right about every subject."
Exactly. Add it to your list of opinions...just put mine near the
top.

If you think that your opinion is special and that I'm being a little
harsh...then that's your opinion.
Before you send any other comments, remember this too: Stupidity
is not in the eye of the beholder. Stupidity is believing that you are not
stupid like the rest of us. And yes, I am doing something about it.
I am posting my opinions for public comment which evokes public thought.
Things may get worse through this "public thought process" but at least
they are changing.
My Pledge
As you may notice in the many articles to come, I absolutely can not
stand people that have an opinion about something they know very little
about or didn't take the time to research before giving their opinion. I
pledge that I will not write a single article about a subject that I don't
know enough about to see several sides of the issue. If you think I am
missing something,
I'd love to be the first to know about it.
If you change the subject then I won't get
the email.
