High Gas Prices +
Waste -
Sacrifices =
Recession
…uh, no.

So gas prices are going absolutely nuts and I think
that I actually didn’t make a trip this year to save the $150 in gas it
would have cost…either that or I was seriously tired. I think it was the
former…maybe the latter.
I’ve received so many email from people saying that
Europe and Canada are paying way more than we are for fuel that I’m
putting this statement right here, in the 2nd paragraph.
Europe and Canada pay exactly what we pay for oil…minus the difference in
their currencies compared to the dollar since oil is based on the dollar.
Then, the foreign guys across the ocean and above our heads (or below
Alaska’s head) TAX THEMSELVES TO OBLIVION. I couldn’t care less if we are
paying less than they are; they should stop taxing themselves so much if
they are going to complain. Taxes wipe out any justified reason to
compare our prices to theirs.
In any case the article above is complaining that the
government isn’t doing anything to help the prices. The Republicans are
calling for more drilling (increasing supply meeting demand easier and
lowering the price) and Democrats are crying against the oil companies’
profits (take from the rich and redistribute the wealth to those who don’t
deserve it and didn’t earn it –I’ll finish this below).
I say that by doing nothing they are helping the
most! When have government agencies and policies governing ever worked?
50% of the time? 20% of the time? Ever?
Even though the stimulus package should have only
went to people who actually earned that money, people who actually paid
taxes, the money rush helped for the short term. We’ll see how much
effect it has in December…probably zero.
The Katrina response was a waste if there ever was
one. Even when they did try to help they ended up trying to poison those
they were helping with faulty trailers. Fantastic.
I’ve followed a few projects in Alaska because I
heard that they were spending tens of millions of dollars for a town of a
few hundred to relocate a village. I heard Senator Ted Stevens say that
the town was in desperate need and they were trying really hard to get the
project finished and funding was needed immediately. Well…huh. I just
chalked it up to another government project that I obviously didn’t
understand.
Then, in what I consider a slip up, Stevens said
“they have needed this project since the late 70’s, houses are falling
into the river and the town is disappearing.” OK wait a minute…so you’re
telling me that these villages have had 38 years to fix the problem
themselves and they have been sitting around waiting for the government to
help!?!? WHAT? How long does it take to move for cry’n out loud?
It’s the same way with the fuel prices. Do you
really want prices to stop rising? Don’t look for the government to help
you. Drive less. That’s right, sacrifice a bit. Let your house be a bit
warmer in the summer and cooler in the winter. Do the little things.
Sacrifice. It’s what this country was founded on. Our forefather’s were
so tired of the King’s suppression that they sacrificed everything they
had, including their citizenships, to fight for what they believed in.
Today Americans are soft. It’s true! America isn’t
soft, but her people are. Think of the uproar if our government had the
nerve to ask us to sacrifice like we had to in the World Wars. Think of
the uproar that would happen with a draft into the military. Americans do
without? Americans sacrifice? United States Citizens use to have a
strong identity. We knew who we were. We knew we were diverse. We knew
we were strong. We knew we could do anything because we were free.
Don’t think that is true? What about the uproar over
the economist that said the recession was “all in people’s heads” because
the actual numbers show the economy is growing...very slowly, but
growing. The uproar was tremendous and ridiculous. If that is what the
numbers say then people are over reacting. They are being told that you
aren’t making 10% leaps an bounds any more…you’re only going to get 5% for
awhile living in the greatest Nation God has ever founded. For how long?
Well…for at least until the Presidential Election is over. It’s too bad
we draw that process out as long as we do. Too bad indeed.
Like the rich child who never really fills the shoes
his father used to build the wealth, Americans need to realize exactly how
well we actually have it. After all, you could be living in Canada or
Europe where they tax your fuel to oblivion.

Before you send any other comments, remember this too: Stupidity
is not in the eye of the beholder. Stupidity is believing that you are not
stupid like the rest of us. And yes, I am doing something about it.
I am posting my opinions for public comment which evokes public thought.
Things may get worse through this "public thought process" but at least
they are changing.
My Pledge
As you may notice in the many articles to come, I absolutely can not
stand people that have an opinion about something they know very little
about or didn't take the time to research before giving their opinion. I
pledge that I will not write a single article about a subject that I don't
know enough about to see several sides of the issue. If you think I am
missing something,
I'd love
to be the first to know about it.
