Introduction:
Before reading this article and
definitely before sending an email, read the sources and pledge sections.
Martha Brockenbrough’s article is more revenge of the
nerd than an article with advice for parents and children.

I write articles that point out weaknesses in others
all the time. Here’s the problem with the article above. Ms.
Brockenbrough has written an article that is ridiculously based on
something that “might” happen. She takes the experiences from her youth
(where she lists teen idols I’ve never heard of so she must be older than
I am) with teen idols and projects them onto an innocent (YES INNOCENT)
girl playing Hanna Montana and herself Miley Cyrus.
I’d like to point out that Martha remembers the teen
idols and that is the entire point of having teen idols. They make money
for people (and themselves) and remembering who they are means that she
bought the entire package hook-line-and-sinker.
The biggest problem with the article, however, is
that Martha Brockenbrough is opening a door to a self-fulfilling
prophecy. To my knowledge, Miley Cyrus hasn’t done anything wrong at this
point (unlike Zoey’s star Jammie Lynn Spears, Brittney Spears’ little
sister) and yet Martha is already bashing her for something that might
happen.
News bulletin coming up, it is OK to be a virgin roll
model. While it is true that most of these self-proclaimed roll models
are fakes, trying to promote virginity is not a crime punishable by a
bashing on the front page of msn.com.
It is extremely disturbing that Ms. Brockenbrough
thinks that she knows what a good book is; what a quality movie is…and
that she thinks that everyone should play an instrument. Can you say
“geek” any louder? Then she goes on and on about saving for college and
how parents are making poor decisions by letting their kids experience
what they want to experience sometimes.
Judging by the picture on her front page I’m absolutely certain that Ms.
Brockenbrough’s article is more “revenge of the nerd” than an article
trying to help parents.
I’m sure everyone is curious as to my picture now…I’m
not the one arrogant enough to post my picture on my website; I’m well
aware that I’m an average idiot.
When I first read the list of accomplishments of
Martha Brockenbrough, I started to be impressed. A close review, however,
makes her sound as if she is a kid playing in a fort with a big “stay out”
sign on the door. Let’s take a look.
First, she is an author. She has written “It Could
Happen to You: Diary of Pregnancy and Beyond.” At first glance I’d say
WOW! She made it and is an author. Then, however, I realize that
billions of women have had children and anyone can write a diary. Just
because she has some connections to get published doesn’t mean she’s an
author.
Next she is the founder of SPOGG. I hope she tears
my grammar up because it only proves the “stay out” sign on her door.
Founder of a grammar club? I think findawish.com should form a club
“WASASAY” We are Stupid and So Are You, get over Yourself!
She writes fun-with-kids columns for cranium.com.
Yeah? Well we write articles for Findawish.com and, judging by sites that
compare traffic, we aren’t doing that bad compared to cranium.com. We
have a reader or two and they have many thousands.
She writes for Encarta. That’s pretty dang cool.
She writes about “dating habits of animals” and she “defend(s) clichés,
and she will “tell you if your boss really is an ape.” Not that
impressive anymore and confirms, once and for all, the revenge of the nerd
theory.

Admit it, Brockenbrough is way too far out in la-la land to take
seriously. If parents want to reward their kids by allowing them to
skip school and watch a movie, go for it. If parents want to allow
their kids to fit in at school and get interested in a pop idol, go for
it. The lawsuits are a bit crazy but people do weird things to get
money...that's more of a lawsuit issue than a Miley Cyrus issue.
Basically...just leave Miley out of the entire article. She's a
kid; leave her alone.
Before you send any other comments, remember this too: Stupidity
is not in the eye of the beholder. Stupidity is believing that you are not
stupid like the rest of us. And yes, I am doing something about it.
I am posting my opinions for public comment which evokes public thought.
Things may get worse through this "public thought process" but at least
they are changing.
My Pledge
As you may notice in the many articles to come, I absolutely can not
stand people that have an opinion about something they know very little
about or didn't take the time to research before giving their opinion. I
pledge that I will not write a single article about a subject that I don't
know enough about to see several sides of the issue. If you think I am
missing something,
I'd love
to be the first to know about it.
