Introduction:
Before reading this article and definitely before sending an email, read the sources and pledge sections.

"User fees" and budget cuts and taxes are all realities since Frank has won the gubernatorial election that I spoke of October 27, 2002.  As the expression goes "I never like to toot my own horn but 'Beep-Beep.'"

First I said that Frank's campaign, with few details and some simple yet well-worded promises, was a good thing and Frank's our governor.  Maybe it hurt his campaign but he still won so it was still a part of a good thing.

I'm going to have to do more research and let time tell its story when it comes to how well Frank's chosen leaders do at their jobs but we'll save that for another article when I know more.

My fourth point about Frank was that fact that he saw a smaller fiscal gap than his opponent.  As I understand it right now we really didn't have a billion dollar budget gap as Frank's opponent thought we had. In fact, Frank is trying to hold out right now drawing just over 400 million from the budget reserve to balance the budget this year.  On the campaign trail he said that the gap was between 400-500 million.

Frank promised no new "income taxes."  Notice I didn't quote "taxes" in either this article or the last article.  I always combine "income" and "taxes" together.  According to Frank we only have one new tax.  The tax on gas is a "user fee."  It doesn't take a rocket scientist to know that at the time Frank was running for governor Alaska was short on money and in order to get money it must come from the people...in one way or another it all comes from the people.  Frank knew this and stuck to his simple truth of no "income tax" while leaving out the details of the other taxes.

Frank has promised to cut the budget and he has proposed cuts in the budget.  A lot of them.  I haven't heard the exact details on everything that has been overturned but the governor, as powerful as he may seem, can only do so much as one man.  If people really want to reduce how much money Alaska spends then they need elect more than one individual that will make the politically incorrect thing of making someone mad by cutting their funding for the benefit of everyone else.

All right so it is a small "beep-beep" and the main point of my article is yet to be founded.  Eventually, though, time will tell how well Frank has done surrounding himself with leaders.

I still believe that stupidity is believing that you are not stupid like the rest of us...but maybe there is a lesser degree of stupidity. Still stupid, just not quite as stupid as the really stupid.

Sources

In no way do the terms "republican" or "democrat" affect this article.  Let me also state that I did indeed watch many of the debates between the Frank and Fran, including the latest one on Channel 2 (which will be how I refer to it).  I have obviously seen the TV commercials and seen the signs all over town as well.  I don't read the local newspaper. I didn't read everything on either candidate's website.  While I'd like to say that none of that has influenced me, we all know that somewhere on some level these ads do work.  To limit this article's length, I didn't include all of the issues (pro-choice vs. pro-life, the PFD and subsistence for example).  With all this, I feel I'm more educated than the average voter, thus the reason for this article. I'm not an expert, nor am I paid.

My Pledge

As you may notice in the many articles to come, I absolutely can not stand people that have an opinion about something they know very little about or didn't take the time to research before giving their opinion.  I pledge that I will not write a single article about a subject that I don't know enough about to see several sides of the issue.  If you think I am missing something, I'd love to be the first to know about it.
